Is Your Child Ready for a Cell Phone?
A note from Ms. Harkey (School Counselor, Grades 6-9)
Many students have or get phones in middle school, so I wanted to share a quick resource if you're debating whether or not to get your child one (especially as the holidays approach... too soon?? :)).
The reason I like the "quiz" below is that it gives your child goals to work towards if you deem them not ready ("show me you're ready for a phone by getting your homework done on time without reminders"), and also shares a few reminders about options that are not full smartphones.
There's no single age when a kid becomes "ready" for a phone. What matters more is why they need one and what they're ready to do with it.
Common Sense Media’s newest interactive experience walks you through those questions and helps you think through whether now is the right time, what kind of device might fit, and what to talk about before it comes home. It's a little help for a decision that feels pretty big.
Please also note our school’s cell phone/smart watch/smart glasses policy.

Hillsborough Elementary Fall Festival
I’m reaching out on behalf of the Hillsborough Elementary School PTA to invite the Eno River Academy K–8 community to our annual HES Fall Fest on Saturday, October 17 from 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Fall Fest is a free community event with games, crafts, inflatables, food trucks, local vendors, pumpkins, music, and more. This year is especially exciting because Hillsborough Elementary is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and Fall Fest will serve as a homecoming celebration for our school and community.
We’d love to welcome ERA families!
